Test for Magical Breath with a Dementor’s Kiss – chemistry and ph indicators

PSA – We’re moving chat over to Zoom this week, it will be open at 1130 from the beginning of each class. We will switch video and audio over to it when the lesson ends.

Hello Science Extraordinaires!

Have you always felt like there was a little something special about you? Like maybe magic might be right around the corner if you just knew the right technique? Maybe it’s time to see what you’ve got.

Today you’re going to be testing your breath to see if you have the power of a dementor’s kiss. And just remember, your magical power is not good or evil, but how you use it might be.

Quick question: What would be your magical specialty? Potions? Transformations? Earth magic? Water? Time?

We can’t wait to see you!

Dr. Erica and Evan

Parent Takeaway: This is a simple activity but might take a little while of to see the full effect. We’d love to see updates or pictures from your kiddo’s trials.

Student Spotlight – Earning badges

A couple weeks ago we did a virtual solar system geohunt and we had one of our students (wizards) perform it from 1000 miles away and earn her astronomy badge. For bainbridge island residents the geocache is setup on the island but anyone can do it if they find the coordinates. If you need a passport book, let us know. If you complete the mission, virtually or in person, send us your map and we’ll send you a finisher’s badge.

child holding finishers badge for finishing solar system geocache on bainbridge island. Passport book showing neptune, mercury, venus and uranus.

Yesterday – Catapult Madness

I don’t know about you but there are now a lot more errant chocolate chips in our house. I hope all of yours were found and properly ‘dealt’ with.

We saw some great decorations on kids catapults and would love to see your photos or videos. Check out the lesson here: https://youtu.be/9uNB5CP1jmw

Tomorrow – Create a chemical clock with a new potion!

Tomorrow we’l have another potions class so you can impress Professor Snape with your concoction mastery.
