Bainbridge Island Summer Camps with Dr. Erica

Enjoy a new theme for our summer science camps each week. Mornings from 9am to 12noon will be our themed camps, campers can stay for lunch (12-1) and a second Tinkerlab/Makerspace camp in the afternoon from 1pm-4pm

Location: Battle Point Observatory on Bainbridge Island
Notes: All materials are included, campers should bring a sack lunch if staying for lunch, water, and plenty of snacks

June 24th-28th: Mission to Mars
Campers will become part of Mission Command as we engineer water rockets for launch, study EDL ideas while tossing eggs from the roof, investigate the rovers as we build our own non-motorized versions, and put on programming hats to rove around the red planet.
Skill development: Experimentation, growth mindset, engineering, programming

July 1st-5th: Robots 101
Campers will learn circuit basics as we create a variety of fun robots that move – some to take home, and some to build, program, and investigate with.
Skill development: Wiring, spatial visualization, problem-solving, programming

July 8th-12th: Electrofied Paper
We will be making paper light up using simple circuits, LEDs, and batteries. Campers will have a fun project to take home each day!
Skill development: Fine motor skills, circuit basics, growth mindset

July 15th-19th: Light and Lasers
Learn about how light impacts our world as we build pinhole cameras, learn about cyanotype printing, create optical illusions, and engineer laser microscopes.
Skill development: Research processes, engineering, art

July 22nd-26th: Programming through fun
Walk into the world of programming as we program each other to make bagels and survive obstacle courses. Campers will also get to engage in programming games and beginning robotics programming.
Skill development: Logical thinking, sequential reasoning, programming

July 29th-Aug 2nd: The Magical World of Harry Potter
Bring a little magic of the Harry Potter world to your child in this captivating camp. We will wire up a sorting hat, create howlers, roll up secret revealing UV wands and more!
Skill development: Intermediate circuits, fine motor skills, art, and design.

All project materials are included. Please plan to pack a snack for your learner.

Meeting Times

To maximize flexibility and ease for families, we have three options for each week of our summer camps:
Attend the themed camp only – this camp runs from 9am to 12noon*
Attend the Tinkerlab/Makerspace only – this camp runs from 1pm to 12noon*
Attend our all-day option – This includes the themed camp and tinkerlab camp from 9am-4pm

Campers attending only one session can opt to stay for lunch with us.
